Our Beginnings

Ireland’s Eye Ferries was set up formally in 2010 by Ken Doyle. Ken had been running boat trips on a part time basis since his childhood in the 1970s with his Grandfather and Father. Indeed, there is evidence of the Doyle family’s involvement in boat trips going back to 1852. When Ken set up Ireland’s Eye Ferries, at first with the vessel PINALIA and soon after with the CHRISTMAS EVE, he gradually extended the season so that it now operates all year round. In 2020 when Ken decided to hang up his cap, Howth Adventures were delighted to step in and continue this long standing Howth tradition. Ken stayed involved with Ireland’s Eye Ferries for a year or so passing on his knowledge and experience before moving on to pastures new.

Sharing The Beauty

Shane established Howth Adventures in 2016 to help protect the wilderness, biodiversity and culture of the beautiful Howth peninsula by sharing it with others on guided walking, hiking and electric bike tours. As an experienced sailor, former coastguard and earlier work in Dublin Port, Shane knew we had to be on the water to truly share the beauty of the Dublin Bay Biosphere.

Ireland’s Eye Ferries became Howth Adventures sister company in 2022 and now offer Dublin’s best outdoor adventures on land and sea.

Coastal Adventure

While working with Ken Doyle of Ireland’s Eye Ferries, we discovered a wonderful multi-generational adventure that allows families and friends to share the magic of the coast together. When Ken decided to swallow the anchor, we knew we had the perfect opportunity to continue sharing the unique environment around Ireland’s Eye.

The migratory birdlife, dolphins, and seals add to the mystery and joy of this special place. Each season brings new wildlife, and we follow the arrival and departure of species as the rhythms of land and sea change throughout the year.

Local Leaders

Our leaders are all Howth natives, who grew up here and share their own unique insight. You’ll do more than just see this beautiful peninsula in Dublin, you’ll live and feel it. A local leader is more than just a guide. They are great craic and key to getting a real and tangible connection with the peninsula and the community.
